VisualDx Mobile App Hits 100 Million Image Views Milestone

Reflects Increasing Dependence on Mobile Diagnostic Support Technology

ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 13, 2015 — VisualDx, the developer of the leading digital diagnostic support system used by thousands of physicians in private practice, hospitals and universities worldwide, announced today its mobile app has broken through the 100 million image views milestone.

While industry data shows that use of mobile devices among physicians has been in the 80 percent range for the past several years, this usage milestone points to a new trend of increasing use of mobile devices such as phones and tablets for clinical purposes.

“Frontline health care professionals, especially those in emergency rooms and primary care offices, must diagnose patients quickly and accurately. This requires near-instantaneous mental recall of all ailment possibilities with no errors – a near impossibility in these time-starved, high intensity environments,” said Dr. Art Papier, chief executive officer and co-founder of VisualDx.

“To aid in clinical information recall, physicians increasingly use mobile apps – resources that provide critical reference and diagnostic information at the swipe of a fingertip. The widespread use of apps, and their favorable physician outlook contrasts with the near universal frustration physicians have with data input into the electronic health record. The enormous use of images demonstrates how innovative mobile technology is taking root within the health care community.”

More than 50 percent of physicians utilize VisualDx through an iPad, iPhone or Android device. The system boasts the world’s largest metadata-enabled visual library of medical diagnoses with more than 100,000-curated images representing all critical areas of medicine.

The technology allows physicians and frontline health care professionals to enter specific data about a patient’s condition, then quickly build a unique, visual-centric differential diagnosis for an individual. Users can then work through the comparative thumbnails to more quickly and accurately arrive at the best diagnosis, explain the process to the patient and decide on the right treatment.

Representatives from VisualDx, including Dr. Papier, will showcase the technology at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference from April 13 – 16 in Chicago as part of the. HIMSS SMART Booth 2084-185.
