Business Development Sales Director - Small and Medium Business Accounts

Rochester, New York based medical software company seeks to fill a unique sales position. This selling position is primarily focused on developing new business with health care practices outside of the hospital and health system market. Role also entails working with other team members to manage customer relationships to support renewals.

As a Business Development Sales Director, you will prospect for new business opportunities through developing innovative campaigns, networking, referrals, trade shows, and other lead sources, and for assistance with account management of new and existing customers and partners.

The Business Development Sales Director will conduct all aspects of the job to include research, prospecting and lead generation, proposal development, and coordination with our fulfillment team.  The Director will also be responsible for maintaining and reporting on pipeline activity and sharing best practices across the team. This role will be supported by a business development team and marketing team that will help ensure that the customer’s objectives are reached.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Use traditional sales skills and new internet marketing and social selling tactics to drive sales growth in our Business Development Small and Medium Business unit.
    • Support prospective clients and accounts through the sales cycle.
    • Support and manage inbound sales from reseller and distribution partners.
    • Leverage Customer Relationship Management to drive initial orders and assist with renewals.
    • Manage accounts and reporting within SalesForce.com to provide regular updates to internal management team.

Additional Essential Functions:

    • Identifies market segments and determines how to maximize penetration into each segment.
    • Develops and strategizes prospects within the small and medium business market.
    • Secures maximum potential revenue out of customer base in accordance with initiative goals.
    • Provides service during trial and shortly after the sale to ensure expectations are met/exceeded.
    • Updates CRM system on prospect/client intelligence.
    • Manages accurate pipeline reporting information.
    • Reports each week all results from the previous period’s efforts including all necessary paperwork ready to be reviewed and forwarded for processing.
    • Meets established goals of sales volume and other key metrics as defined.
    • Participates in all scheduled sales meetings and/or training sessions.
    • Follows up within required time limits on all communications received.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Five years minimum experience working in software sales desired for this position with consideration given to candidates with health information technology sales experience. 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must have the ability to generate market segments and effectively sell software products with solid knowledge of digital tools. The candidate must have a detailed work ethic, be highly motivated, well organized and be able to communicate effectively with a widely diverse group of individual customers by phone and in person.


Some travel will be required (<20%)
