Director of Consumer Engagement

The involvement of the patient in all aspects of their healthcare decision making has fundamentally changed the medical field and how consumers receive, digest and utilize information to make more informed health decisions. Research shows that health is the number one search activity on the Internet and on mobile devices. In recognition of consumer medical knowledge empowerment, health plans, healthcare institutions and technology companies are innovating to more deeply engage consumers in prevention, and their medical care.

VisualDx is a company dedicated to improving healthcare decisions. As Director of Consumer Engagement at VisualDx, you will be charged with enhancing existing consumer products and building new products that will transform patient engagement and patient knowledge. You will work closely with engineers, creative designers and stakeholders throughout the company from the very earliest stages of product conception through product launch including ongoing enhancement. You will gather customer requirements, coordinate with senior staff member to shape the product vision and market strategy, as well as working closely with development, marketing, and client services to ensure adequate growth of consumer engagement products and services.

VisualDx is a small, creative company, and you will be hands on contributing at all levels. You will identify and assess problems and challenges, clearly articulating tradeoffs and decision points. You will break down complex problems and use data to analyze and inform decisions. Initially you will serve many roles in this fast moving, entrepreneurial position. Skinsight, our platform for skin health, has been recently revised. You will be responsible for insuring its content enhancement and ongoing traffic growth. You will develop new products and ensure their success.


  • Highly motivated problem solver, with rich Internet and consumer marketing knowledge. Has excellent writing and spoken communication skills. Understands Internet analytics, SEO and has the skills to drive website traffic. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience. 5+ years; in the healthcare or web services environment preferred with 2+ years of experience with consumer Internet or Web & mobile-based technology products and services
  • Proven ability to influence teams without direct authority
  • Ability to recommend priorities among competing opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience using data to drive decision making whenever possible 
  • Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify consumer health information needs
  • Continually canvas the market for competitive products, and fully understand the consumer health landscape and trends
  • Shape and work with internal team on consumer product vision, strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals, objectives, and market need
  • Develop business partnerships and strategic relationships in coordination with Business Development team
  • Work with Director of Marketing to insure usage and traffic growth
  • Provide detailed information, best practices, and support through the implementation process
  • Specify market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by but not limited to customer visits, beta tests, focus groups, and surveys.
  • Work with software development on all aspects of product roadmap and release, from early prototyping to eventual launch. 
  • Outline product requirements, and ongoing product roadmap as well as partnering with the professional product manager to build a cohesive roadmap across the company
  • Develop high-level business cases in support of innovation and product development activities
  • Define product success metrics, and analyze product performance by driving the product agenda with Engineering and other cross-functional teams 
  • As the subject matter expert, support strategic marketing, sales and business development in their respective prospect, customer, partner, and market-facing activities.
  • Work with stakeholders to define success metrics for the consumer product(s) and work with reporting team to create reports for internal stakeholders that demonstrate user engagement, behavior change, and value along with potential ideas for improvement
  • All other duties as assigned
