Edita K., an MD/PhD student at the University of Kentucky, saw a patient with a cutaneous horn. She turned to VisualDx to expand her differential and shares her story below.
“We had a previously healthy 30 year old Caucasian female that had a cutaneous horn on her face. We speculated it looked benign but she was bothered by it cosmetically and we thought a biopsy would add diagnostic value as well. We came up with a differential of more common skin growths that could produce a cutaneous horn, but I specifically looked at the differential through VisualDx which had something our brainstorming left out – sebaceous adenoma. Based on the yellow granules at the base and the initial appearance documented a year ago, the diagnosis seemed fitting. Thanks to VisualDx I looked clever to my attending by coming up with it, but really it was VisualDx that helped me out. VisualDx is a medical student’s dream.”
