Medical Student Uses VisualDx to Ease Patient’s Concerns about Spreading Neck Rash

Julien A., a student studying Family Medicine at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, writes about using VisualDx to ease a patient’s concerns.

“24 year old female presented for a rash on her neck. Pt first noticed the rash one week ago as one spot on the left side of her neck. Pt stated the rash has since spread all over her neck. Pt denied pain but reports the rash was very itchy for the first few days and currently itches off and on. Pt tried Eucerin lotion for the past 3 days with no improvement; the rash is lighter in the morning and becomes redder after a hot shower. Pt reported she has never experienced anything like this before. Pt denies allergies, prolonged outdoor exposure, recent infection, or insect bite. Pt is worried this could be contagious and is concerned about the patchy appearance of her neck. After using VisualDx, I was able to make the most likely diagnosis as pityriasis rosea.”
