An 18-month-old was brought to the pediatrician by his mother after his cold got significantly worse and he developed a dry, barking cough. His voice also sounded hoarse to her and he had developed a fever. She also noted that he was much more tired than usual, preferring to just sit on her lap with his head resting on her. Normally, he never stopped moving! When examining the child, the doctor heard stridor in his lungs.
