Acquired progressive kinking of the hair (APKH) is a rare disorder characterized by hair in one or more regions of the scalp undergoing a progressive textural change, becoming dry, lusterless, wiry, and kinky. This is accompanied by a decreased rate of growth and darkening of the color. The boundaries between normal and abnormal hair are not sharply defined. APKH is more common in males and, in some of the cases described, has preceded development of male pattern alopecia.
