Biliary hypercholesterolemic xanthomatosis is a condition in which hypercholesterolemia and xanthomas occur in the setting of hepatic cholestasis. Underlying causes include biliary cirrhosis or atresia.
Primary biliary cirrhosis primarily affects middle-aged or older women and may be preceded by months to years of jaundice.
