Bubble hair is an acquired hair shaft abnormality that leads to weak, dry, brittle, and easily broken hair. It is characterized by the formation of microscopic air bubbles in the hair shaft. This can occur in wet hairs exposed to heat from hair styling or hair drying appliances. Clinically, this could manifest as focal patches of nonscarring hair loss.

Bubble hair typically resolves upon discontinuation of heat styling.
