Cosmetic-induced acne refers to acne caused by chronic exposure to folliculo-occlusive cosmetics. The condition occurs predominantly between the ages of 20 and 50. A preceding history of acne vulgaris is not absolute.
Cosmetic-induced acne presents as closed comedones on the cheeks and chin. Other areas of the face may also be involved. Open comedones may be seen. Occasionally, small inflamed papules and pustules occur. Cosmetic-induced acne can have a long course and waxing and waning may occur, depending on cosmetic regimens used.
