Synopsis

A dermoid cyst results from an alteration in fetal development at the lines of cleavage. The cyst contains a keratinizing epithelial lining, sebaceous glands, eccrine glands and sometimes mature hair. Dermoid cysts are typically seen at birth or noticed shortly thereafter.
