Although classically this was considered to be a disease of young women, recent cohort studies demonstrate a broad age range at diagnosis. Clinical presentation varies significantly and correlates with affected arterial beds. When affecting the renal arteries, fibromuscular dysplasia is a well-described cause of renovascular hypertension.
