Herpetic sacral radicular myelitis
Patients may or may not report a history of genital herpes simplex infection. Symptoms are typically self-limited, but they may recur. Cerebrospinal fluid may show elevated white blood cells. Herpes simplex virus type 2 nucleic acid may be identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing on spinal fluid.
