Synopsis

A disorder characterized by infiltration of the cardiac myocardium by eosinophils and lymphocytes in the setting of persistent eosinophilia. Myocardial necrosis often leads to formation of mural thrombus on the endocardial surface of the left ventricle, which may lead to embolic complications such as strokes. Subsequent fibrosis of the myocardial and valvular structures can cause restrictive cardiomyopathy and valvular regurgitation, producing symptoms of chest discomfort, dyspnea, and heart failure.
