Cutaneous myxoma

Synopsis

Cutaneous myxomas typically present as small (< 1 cm) dermal or subcutaneous nodules located on the head, neck, or trunk. Lesions often present by early adulthood and have a tendency to recur following removal. When associated with CNC, additional notable findings include lentigines, blue nevi, cardiac myxomas, and various endocrine and nonendocrine tumors.

Based on histologic findings:- Focal dermal mucinosis
- Myxoid neurofibroma (see Carney complex)
- Myxoid neurothekeoma (dermal nerve sheath fibroma)
- Fibromyxoma (see, eg, superficial acral fibromyxoma)
- Myxoid dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP)
- Leiomyoma or leiomyosarcoma
- Spindle cell / pleomorphic lipoma
- Lipoma
- Neurofibroma
- Cutaneous lymphoma
- Desmoid tumor
- Angiofibroma
- Cutaneous fibroadenoma (see, eg, fibroadenoma of breast)
