Synopsis

Diffuse scleritis : Eye pain, Blurred vision, Photophobia, Bilateral distribution, Conjunctival injection, Excessive tearing
Diffuse anterior scleritis is one of the most commonly encountered forms of scleritis. Scleritis is an inflammatory condition affecting the sclera that is often associated with underlying systemic collagen vascular disease, vasculitis, or other auto-immune disease. Scleritis causes severe injection of the sclera and ocular pain. It is most commonly seen in middle-aged women. As scleritis often stems from an underlying systemic condition, it tends to affect both eyes and can be quite asymmetric. The scleral inflammation can affect adjacent tissues and, many times, the peripheral cornea can become involved and cause visual loss.
