Hypoparathyroidism in Adult
E20.9 – Hypoparathyroidism
36976004 – Hypoparathyroidism
Differential Diagnosis & Pitfalls
- Low PTH and low calcium can also be seen in hypomagnesemia or in patients with an activating mutation of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) associated with autosomal dominant hypocalcemia.
- Kidney disease, vitamin D deficiency, and pancreatitis can all cause hypocalcemia, but PTH will be elevated, distinguishing these diagnoses from hypoparathyroidism.
