Maturational hyperpigmentation is a form of acquired facial hypermelanosis seen in adult patients. It most commonly presents on the hollows of the bilateral malar cheeks, although it may also involve the melolabial folds and temples. An association with metabolic syndrome is suspected. There is no history of inciting trauma, usage of topicals, or prior dermatoses. It is primarily described in patients of African or East Indian descent.
