Synopsis

Sebaceous gland hyperplasia refers to localized hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands, usually on the central face and forehead. Sebaceous hyperplasia may also be present on the nipples, where it is referred to as Montgomery's tubercles, and on anogenital skin. Generally, this hyperplasia does not appear until after 40 years of age, but it may arise earlier in immunocompromised patients, typically those treated with cyclosporine. The condition is benign, and treatment is for cosmetic purposes, though in rare cases eruptions can be severe and disfiguring.
