Synopsis

A suburethral diverticulum is an out-pouching of the female urethra, which arises secondary to infection and obstruction of a urethral epithelial cleft.

Differential Diagnosis & Pitfalls

  • Urethral carcinoma will be firmer in consistency.
  • Cystocele and urethrocele may be a challenge to differentiate.
  • Gartner duct cyst will be found on the lateral vaginal wall and will not usually be closely adjacent to the urethra.
