Brittney Hahney

Brittany Hahney is a fourth-year medical student at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science and holds a Master of Public Health from PHSU. As a member of the Puerto Rican diaspora, Brittany is passionate about advancing equitable access to healthcare for Puerto Ricans, a commitment that has shaped her clinical, research, and community service efforts.

Dedicated to increasing access to specialty care, Brittany leads the development of Puerto Rico’s first comprehensive dermatology database, which compiles patient information from free dermatology clinics hosted by Fundación Piel to better characterize the burden of dermatologic disease on the island and identify barriers to care. Brittany serves as the President of her university’s Student-Run Free Clinic, Clínica del Sur, where she developed and implemented a USPSTF-based preventive health screening program to empower patients to better understand and engage in preventive care.

Brittany has held several leadership roles, including President of her university’s LGBTQ+ Health Professionals group, Vice President of the PHSU Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and project lead for the Mock OSCE, an NBME grant-funded initiative in which third- and fourth-year medical students provide simulated OSCE experiences for second-year students while integrating diversity, inclusion, and humanistic care into clinical cases.

Brittany’s clinical interests within dermatology include Mohs surgery for its attention to detail and precision, as well as advanced medical dermatology for its clinical complexity. Outside of medicine, Brittany enjoys crocheting, hiking, and baking.
