VisualDx among Emergency Department Innovations Showcased at ACEP13

Nation’s Only Widely Used Diagnostic Decision Support Tool Featured in Virtual ER

ROCHESTER, NY, Oct. 8, 2013 – VisualDx, the nation’s only widely used diagnostic decision support tool, will be among the Emergency Department innovations showcased in the first-ever virtual emergency room, InnovatED, at the annual Scientific Assembly of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in Seattle from October 14 to 17.

This year’s assembly, ACEP13, will bring more than 6,000 emergency physicians to the Washington State Convention Center where VisualDx will be among the “cutting edge products and services” ACEP said it will feature in InnovatED, an interactive and educational opportunity to get firsthand experience with the latest innovations in emergency medicine.

“At InnovatED, we will be demonstrating how physicians can get the correct diagnosis in seconds on a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer,” said Art Papier, CEO of Logical Images, the company that created VisualDx. “VisualDx is already used by more than 20% of the emergency rooms in the country. As busy emergency physicians use information tools at the point of care more universally, our diagnostic tools will become essential in all emergency departments.”

ACEP13 participants will be able to order VisualDx subscriptions for $149.99, a 50% discount from the retail price, by visiting the VisualDx booth, No. 344, at the conference or by speaking with staff in the InnovatED exhibit. After the conference, ACEP members can get 20% off VisualDx Complete by visiting http://bookstore.acep.org/visualdx

VisualDx provides immediate access to diagnostic information in critical areas of medicine for emergency physicians including fevers, rashes, ophthalmology, infectious disease, chemical events, STDs, travel medicine, child abuse recognition and more.

Physicians enter a patient’s symptoms, medical history and other information into VisualDx. Based on the information entered, VisualDx quickly delivers a highly accurate list of potential diagnoses, a series of photographs against which to match the patient’s current conditions and the recommended treatments.  The physician can then work through the list to arrive at the correct diagnosis, explain the process to the patient and decide on the right treatment for each patient.

Created by physicians for physicians, the VisualDx library is derived from an exhaustive database that includes more than 100,000 peer-reviewed medical images with a special emphasis on covering all different ages and skin colors. It also provides treatment options for more than 1,250 diagnoses. It is available as an online and mobile resource that works with the iPhone, Android and iPad.

VisualDx is the only diagnostic decision support system to be widely adopted by clinicians nationally, with almost half the nation’s medical schools and more than 1,500 hospitals and large clinics, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, relying on it to reduce medical error by ensuring accurate diagnoses.

“Emergency physicians often have only minutes to assess and diagnose patients, and they can’t possibly recognize every variant, memorize every treatment or identify every drug reaction,” said Dr. Papier.  “VisualDx gives them the information they need, within seconds of when they need it, to build confidence in their diagnosis and treatment recommendations.”
