A 38-year-old male with fever and abnormal chest x-ray. CT of chest shows ground glass opacities in the bilateral upper lobes. Consolidation in the bilateral lower lobes with associated ground glass opacities, with the right greater than left. Findings consistent with multifocal pneumonia.

An 82-year-old male with pneumonia. Initial CXR shows small focus of patchy airspace opacity in the left lower lung, as seen with infection. Day 5: patient developed hypoxia. CXR shows increasing bilateral lower lung opacities. Day 8: patient’s oxygen level is worsening. CXR shows extensive patchy airspace opacities representing worsening multifocal pneumonia. Day 9 shows slight improvement in aeration of upper lungs. Continued bilateral patchy airspace opacities predominantly in the mid- to lower lung fields with more consolidation in the left lower lung, consistent with continued multifocal pneumonia.
