S. Ferguson, a family nurse practitioner student at U of I, created a differential for a patient with a bump on her finger and was able to give an accurate diagnosis and closure for the patient.
“I observed a female with a bump on her finger next to her index fingernail. It was not painful unless bumped on something–this also occasionally produce clear drainage. It had been there for a few weeks to months with unknown cause. An I&D was completed, providing a gelatinous clear substance. I was able to use VisualDx after the visit and tell the client at a later date that she had a myxoid cyst! She was extremely grateful for a specific answer rather than just “the I&D looked fine”.
