VisualDx plus DermExpert improves diagnostic accuracy among non-dermatology clinicians. This is according to a study recently published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. VisualDx’s artificial intelligence add-on feature DermExpert was able to accurately identify lesion morphology across skin types and colors. Lesion types included nodule, purpura, bullae, and pustule.
Without the use of a decision support tool, non-dermatologists only correctly identified skin lesion morphology 36% of the time. Accuracy improved to 68% when using VisualDx Plus DermExpert. In fact, VisualDx Plus DermExpert outperformed 14 out of 15 non-dermatology clinicians on lesion accuracy.
The accuracy of VisualDx Plus DermExpert did not significantly change based on skin color being analyzed; accuracy was 70% in lighter skin (I-III) and 68% in darker skin (IV-VI). VisualDx Plus DermExpert accurately identified morphologies in top 3 differential 92% of the time, regardless of skin type.
