Matthew B., a student at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, saw a patient with Type 2 diabetes having trouble with his medication. Matthew explains how VisualDx helped him to better serve his patient, despite not having learned yet about Type 2 diabetes.
“This past summer, I had a great opportunity to assist a patient on rotation. A patient presented to the pharmacy with Type 2 diabetes that he was diagnosed with many years ago. His exercise was minimal and his diet was improving. He was prescribed Bydureon and complained of the difficulty with the medication. It was difficult to administer and was painful for the patient. We had not covered Type 2 diabetes in our didactic coursework yet, but the pharmacist and I reviewed the disease state in VisualDx. We covered other treatment options for the patient that would be covered under his insurance and would be less painful. This allowed us to provide patient-centered care for our patient!”
