Severe Rash Stumps PA Student; VisualDx’s Medical Images Aid Diagnosis

Erica C., a PA student at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC), saw a patient from another country with a rash on her feet that she didn’t recognize right away. She shares her story of using VisualDx and its range of medical images that span disease severity for arriving at the correct diagnosis.

“I had a patient came in from out of the country who has had a long standing skin condition on her feet and toes. Originally I did not know what this condition could be, but it occurred to me that it could be a fungal infection. After looking into athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) images on VisualDx, I realized that this was a case of athlete’s foot that was further in the disease process than I had seen before. Because she had not had access to medical care in her home country, she had a more extreme version of the infection than what I had seen in school. Thanks to VisualDx’s images showing multiple different levels of severity, I was able to confidently make the diagnosis.”
