VisualDx’s Medical Images Help Identify Atypical Zoster

Chase P., a dermatology resident at the University of Alabama at Birmingham tells us how he uses VisualDx’s images to identify and treat atypical presentations of shingles.

Zoster manifests in very weird ways, not just as erythematous vesicles. Often the symptomology is helpful because it’s the only clue its zoster. Several of the photos I’ve seen on Vdx have helped me to identify atypical zoster. Most recently a patient in clinic who’s VZV PCR came back positive. She had erythematous round macule with thin scale, no vesicles, but these were VERY painful.”

Macular zoster pictured here is not patient in this case. See more pictures of zoster in VisualDx.
