New Feature: DDx Strength Indicator

A feature we are excited to introduce in the new VisualDx is the DDx Strength indicator, which is part of the Differential Builder. The indicator accounts for the relevance of findings entered with respect to the diagnoses returned.

A high DDx Strength (green) indicates that findings entered by clinicians have a high correlation and will result in a handful of diagnoses from over 2500 that are available in the new VisualDx. The top returned diagnoses will be more likely to match all of your findings (i.e. 5 out of 5 versus 3 out of 5). A lower DDx Strength (yellow, orange or red) indicates that findings entered were contradictory, unrelated to each other, or applied to many diagnoses (i.e. malaise).

The DDx Strength indicator will constantly change as findings are entered, occasionally changing from green back to yellow or orange. For instance in the example above, the chief complaint is “vomiting”. Other key findings entered are leading toward a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. However, if we entered a key finding of “headache”, the DDx Strength would change from green to yellow because “headache” is not highly correlated with the other key findings listed. Clinicians can use the DDx Strength indicator to identify outlier findings in their differential.
